Jeffrey A. Towbin, MD

JTowbin.jpgDr. Towbin is Executive Co-Director, The Heart Institute, Kindervelt-Samuel Kaplan Professor and Chief, Pediatric Cardiology, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.  Prior to this position he was Professor and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. He did his Pediatric Residency at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati before arriving in Houston for his Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in 1985. He joined the faculty in July, 1989.

 Dr. Towbin has published over 270 peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters, has been awarded many NIH grants, including a current Program Project Grant and a Cluster Award, and is the recipient of several specific private donations to support his research, as well as receiving many honors nationally and internationally, including the Michael Debakey Excellence in Research Award.

 Clinically, Dr. Towbin has helped develop and directed the Pediatric Heart Failure and Transplant Program, and the Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic, both of which are currently amongst the largest in the U.S. He now has a separate Cardiomyopathy Clinic. Dr. Towbin's work in deciphering the causes of sudden cardiac death due to heart muscle disease and cardiac rhythm disorders has been instrumental in advancing the understanding of these disorders, and his work on the treatment of these disorders is helping break new ground.
